Critical and Ethical Skills Assessment (CESA)

Michael Hoffmann

This project tries, first, to identify the skills that are needed to address the main challenges of wicked problems: (a) ethically responsible problem framing; (b) taking all those into account who affect and are affected by decisions; and (c) reflective consensus building. Secondly, it develops an assessment instrument to measure these skills. Since such an assessment requires the analysis of language produced by test-takers -- the creativity required to express the skills needed to cope with wicked problems cannot be measured by surveys or multiple-choice tests -- a third goal is the development of natural language processing tools to score test results automatically.
